Scholarships

Sia Furler Institute Scholarships

The Sia Furler Institute Scholarships provide assistance with education and living costs for one year of either the Bachelor of Music or the Bachelor of Media programs, or the Diploma of Music program. The Scholarships are administered by the Faculty of Arts.

Valued at $2,500 it is payable in two equal instalments direct to the student following confirmation of enrolment and satisfactory academic progress after each of the census dates (31 March and 31 August each year).

Applicants will be required to produce a short (1 minute) digital clip which:

  • outlines why they seek to complete the Music and Media course;
  • outlines how they feel the course will benefit them in their professional endeavours;
  • defines the special qualities they feel they would bring to the course.

Selection of the successful candidate will be made by a selection panel including the Director, Elder Conservatorium (and/or nominee),the Head, School of Humanities (and/or nominee) and a representative from the Sia Furler Institute (and/or nominee), to a music and media student in financial need who, in the view of the selection panel, demonstrates a creative and imaginative approach in fulfilling the selection criteria outlined above.

Commercial Radio Australia - Brian White Scholarship

The Brian White scholarship aims to honour the memory of one of radio’s legendary journalists and to help the recipient to transition out of study and into the commercial radio industry. Entries are open to both recent graduates and students who are in their final year of study in an applicable course such as Communications, Media, Journalism or Radio. The scholarship winner will complete an 8 week work placement in either Sydney or Melbourne with their time split into two week blocks at stations owned by major networks: Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), Australian Radio Network (ARN), Macquarie Media Limited (MML) and Nova Entertainment. Submissions will be accepted from March 20, 2017 and will close on April 13, 2017. Criteria and other details will be published soon.
